Today is the annual duchshund walk...

We were up at 6am and Wayne had breakfast at Kyle Inn. Too early for me, just had coffee, OJ. We hit the road approx 8am to head for Key West. He wanted to beat the heavy traffic. Walked down to Sloppy Joe's to  buy Sailor a new Party Animal T-shirt for his parade. Plus did some T-shirt shopping on the walk to Flemming St. for the parade at 12noon.

This year they blocked off Flemming St for the Dachshund walk. The count total of dachshunds were 227. WOW, that's lots of W*I*E*N*E*R*S.

Sailor was the only one with the Sloppy Joe's shirt......Party Animal....

After the Dachshund walk a couple walked up to us and to our surprise it was Gordon and Kathy, who we met last Christmas in Boyd's Campground. We were so happy to see them. They had lost our boat card and they new if we were down we would be at the Dachshund walk.  We all walked down to Sloppy Joe's for lunch and had a great time. We went are separate ways and met up with them at Boyd's for a few hours. Good times. Will catch up with them again this week.

We did more shopping around and Wayne wanted to look for Zippo's for Norman.  We found some and I took a picture on my new phone and sent it to Norm. He called back and said with ones he wanted. The Conch Republic, Southernmost Point.

We got back to Knights Key about 9:30pm. I was so tired and plus my foot was screaming, I went to bed. Wayne woke me up at midnight to say Happy New Year. People were setting off fireworks near, but I didn't care, back to sleep. ( I'm getting old...L0L).

Around 5:30pm we went to Burdine's to hear Joe Momma sing. We had a nice talk with him and enjoyed his singing with butter bean soup with a one of his songs. with.

Picnic lunch on Bum'sRush

Today we packed the cooler up with lunch and decided to take the boat out again. We went on the bay side to the State Park Bahia Honda. Beached the boat, but it was high tide and still to much water. Sailor wouldn't be able to walk in the water. Plus it's only 70 today and we are wearing sweatshirts, Sailor would be cold.

This is in the Harbor of Bahia Honda State Park. We have had Bum'sRest here a few times on our sailing trips. We walked Sailor and had some lunch. I had to buy a T-shirt at the store, just had too!

Leaving the harbor now. Looking out to the new bridge is where we came under from the bay side. Now we are going through to the the ocean side where the old bridge is cut off. The ocean side ride back was very calm. We went to Burdine's to gas the boat up and then went back to the campground to take the boat out.

While Wayne rinsed the boat off, I brought the computer out to the screen house to try to upload the pictures. It seemed to work better outside.

We went over to the little resturant here, Kyle's Inn, and had a light dinner. Then we walked the grounds twice before calling it a night.

Took a ride today

When we woke up today it was a lot cooler and the wind was blowing. So we'll put the boat in tomorrow. So, Wayne said lets go for a late lunch early dinner at the No Name Pub. Ok with me. Took forever to get there. The traffic was bumper to bumper. Must be something going on in Key West, or a lot more people came down this week for vacation. Who knows.

Sailor isn't allowed in the pub, so he stayed in the truck. We parked in a shady spot. He was not happy at all. We had great food. Wayne ate all his pizza and I brought half of my calizone home. We took Sailor for a walk before heading back to the campground. Took him to the field to play ball. By the time we came back the sun was going down. Got some good shots.

I'm trying to upload pictures and blog, while Wayne is watching Captain Ron. LOL Mom and Norman just Skyped us.

Sailor all comfy in our bed pillows, but still has his eye on us. LOL

Just Relax....

Wayne relaxing in his screen in area. While he was relaxing, I washed my hair with the hose. Just easier. It is a beautiful day of 80 degrees.  We took a long walk up to the 7 mile bridge. We sat and looked out at the pretty water for a while. I did pretty good walking,  I had my foot brace on. Trying to walk everyday.

Thought we were going to have a pretty sunset when this cold front blew through. The sky looked so neat. It started to get cool and feel like rain. It poured for about 5 minutes and then it was over.

Wayne fired up the propane grill and cooked the steaks, while I fix the sides. After dinner we watched Forrest Gump.

Boat Ride

This morning we drove into West Marine, Wayne spent some of his Christmas money. Home Depot to switch out the propane tank we brought for the grill, the valve was broke. Stopped at Publix, just because you have too. LOL

After we had lunch, we launched Bum'sRush for the first time ever in turquoise water. This the harbor coming out of Knight's Key. We cruised Boot Key Harbor and stopped at Dockside for a beer.

Went through Sister's Creek into the ocean and around back to the campground harbor to take the boat out. Later on we went to Burdine's for dinner.

We were on the road again at 5:30am. Merry Christmas family and friends. I can't call the kids, nobody is up... LOL. So, I'll enjoy drinking my hot coffee and blueberry muffin Wayne bought us this morning. Sailor is snuggled in my lap, of course.

We made it to Knights Key approx. 9am this morning.

Now the process of getting the camper off the truck, boat backed in and the table and grill set up. Oh, and don't forget the screen house.
NICE!! Home Sweet Home for a while. Now it's time to put the tree up and celebrate Christmas.
MERRY CHRISTMAS...HO-H0-H0

Everyone knows this place....South of the Border. We just drive by. It's more fun reading all the signs 100 miles before you get there, then stopping. If you ever stopped there you know what I'm talking about. We started on the road this morning approx. 5:30am. Stopped twice for fuel and around 5pm we ate at McDonald's. Been on the phone with American Express. They keep declining the card at the fuel pump. Fraud Protection, whatever, how many times do I have to comfirm that it's really the Bumm's and not a theif. We told them 3 times we are traveling. Never had this problem with them before.

After Wayne drove a few hours on the Florida Turnpike we stopped at a rest area and called it a night. approx. 9pm. We should be 4 hours away from Marathon.

Christmas Vacation

Christmas vacation in Bum'sRest.  All packed up with Bum'sRush hitched behind.  We are headed for Marathon Florida in the Keys. We got on the road approx 1pm. We had to stop once. A fellow pointed to the back that something was wrong. The bow cover on Bum'sRush was flapping in the wind. Wayne tied ropes all  across it. Traffic wasn't bad at all this year, no traffic jams at all. Maybe everyone started out a day earlier. Stopped twice for fuel and call it a night in a truck stop about 9:30pm.

The long drive home.....

We were on the road by 6am. and were going to drive to Maine for the night. But, plan changes. Hurricane Irene is moving up the coast. Have to get to the sailboat and prepare her for the worst. Wayne made the decision to drive straight through. Ugh, of course, it started to rain as soon as we were back in the USA (not hurricane related). Customs was a breeze, also.  Arrived in New Gretna at 3am in the morning, at my parents back yard, jumped into the camper and slept till 7am. The Viking Yachting Center is 1 1/2 miles down the road.  Wayne took off the solar panels, dodger and bimini. Also the main sail. Everything that could come off did. Took electronics and valuables inside. Needless to say I spent a restless night in the boat. Just thinking this might be the last time on her. With new moon high tides (0nly 2 nights out of the year) with high hurricane winds and lots of rain there is a chance that the floating docks could come off the pilings and kiss all the boats goodbye.

Next morning we packed everything in the camper. After making sure Bum's Rest was tied secure we said our goodbyes to others and ran in the raindrops to our truck. Wayne had also put Bum's Rush (17ft cobia) on her trailer and put her in my parents yard.  Now, Hurricane Irene is in charge.

Of course, we didn't sleep. Had Channel 10 on all night. Plus, water water everywhere!!!! Our back room was flooding. Here comes the wet vac. Wayne finally found where the rain was coming in and temporally fixed it. Now, tornado warning...( had the downstairs bathroom ready with radio, food, flashlight and cushion to sit on/ cover our heads)What next....Oh yea, had to move the car in the front yard so it wouldn't be in the flood water. We had left the camper on the truck and that was on the side yard close to the house. Also, had our generator in case the electric went out for the refrigerator and the freezer. Never lost power.

Goodbye Irene.. Bless my dad, he called at 7am. and had drove down to the marina to check on Bum's Rest. All the boats were fine. Thank you God and for everyone that was praying. Around 1pm we tried to drive down to the marina, but, all the roads were closed. We know everything is fine. Lots of our friends called who had been down there. So, we will try again tomorrow.

What a way to end our camping trip to Nova Scotia. And you know what? Irene never even got close to Nova Scotia.

Bum's Rest Poor man's motor home signing off till another adventure.....

Sailing on the Bras d'Or Lake

Today is our last day in Cape Breton Island. We did sleep in for the last morning and then I made breakfast. By 2pm we drove down to the Baddeck Wharf to take a sailing tour on the Amoeba. A 67ft schooner. .

Captain John Bryson.  His father built this boat in his backyard. It took 10years to build.
Alexander Graham Bell's manison
Beautiful shoreline

Heading back to the wharf. It sure was a very relaxing ride with lots of sunshine.

Sailor watching the pork chops cooking on the grill. After dinner we walked up to the hall/office for a ice cream sundae.
Calling it a night. Getting up and leaving at 6am tomorrow. Time to work are way back to NJ. :(  So, I'll not be able to blog, no wifi. Should be back by Friday night and going right to the boat. Then I'll be able to finish the blogging.

Doing a day trip today...

It rained hard last night and the winds blew till early morning. Now the sun is out and quite nice. Getting ready to drive to Little Narrows. First, we have to take a ferry boat.

LOL... we thought we were taking a ferry boat ride. This took less then 5 minutes. At $5.25 each way.
Beautiful scenic driving on little roads. Yikes!!! watch out for that pot holes.
We finally made it to our destination, Iona, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. On this hugh mountain side they made the Highland Village Museum on 43 acres. It took little over a hour to walk. Starts out what it would of looked like in Gaelic Scotland 1770s-1830s).

They called this a black house.
Dirt floors, fire pit, wood box sleeper. The animals would also sleep inside.
After emigrating to Nova Scotia, (1770s-1850s) the Gaelic ancestors made new homes.
At least it had wood floors. Up stairs bedrooms.
Centre chimney house and church (1850s-1880s)
Centre hallway house with cast iron stoves instead of open fireplaces.

They also had a school house 1900's, general store 1900's, a forge 1900's, carding mill (wool) and a turn of the century house 1920, which Wayne didn't take pictures of.  It was a beautiful day to walk.

We followed the road around the other side of the island and back to the ferry. We are headed to the town of Badddeck to have dinner at the Baddeck Lobster Supper.  Yup! That's right. We had the 1lb. lobster, all you can eat mussels, chowder, desserts. Boy are we full.
