Last night in Bimini

Yesterday, we just stayed around the boat. Walked around the whole resort and on the beach. Kathy cooked dinner, shrimp & rice, and homemade baked apples with raisins, walnuts with vanilla ice cream. While we were having coffee, the wind was picking up. Chuck checked out his weather on his GPS. A big storm was coming across from Miami. We all were securing down the boats with extra lines, bumpers. Wayne even had lines going around the Bimini top. We were rocking and rolling, winds gusting up to 50. Chuck's jib sail got caught up in the wind and ripped.

Today was a windy day, with a little sun. Wayne and I took the water taxi over to the North end of Bimini. We visited our friends on Passages. Seeing when they plan to leave, check the weather, etc. Chuck & Kathy stayed on their boat. Afterwards, we walked some more and took more pictures.

As you can see the ocean was really ruff today.

After we return from are walk in North Bimini, Wayne helped Chuck take down his jib sail. We laid it out in a grassy area and rolled it up. It looks like the sun protection piece ripped about 10 ft off. But,the line needs to be sewn back in. Now we are looking for a sail repair shop.

 

Sunset tonight

Tonight the Bimini Sands other marina, 2 miles away, was having a Valentine's special. They have a shuttle to take you down and back. We had a wonderful dinner. Us gals even received a rose. 

Weather permitting, we are leaving Bimini with 2 other boat, Passages, and N-Joy. Heading towards the Berry Islands.  So, I won't have a signal to blog or skype anyone. I will be in touch as soon as I do have WiFi.  So don't worry.

Are friends George, Mo and Carly from Passages, came over this side of the Island. Checking out where we are staying. I made rum punch for cocktails. Then a while later we went up to the restaurant for lunch.  This picture is the restaurant upstairs and the ship store below. Chuck & Kathy also joined us.

After lunch we all walked down to the beach. Just watching the waves.

After our friends left, Wayne, Sailor and I took a long walk around the resort to check it out and get some exercise. There are a lot of buildings still being built. They said they are all sold. Some are for sale by owners. It comes with a boat slip and  golf cart.

We skipped dinner tonight, we were all still full from lunch. So, Kathy lucked out.  

Enjoying Bimini today...

Wayne took a bunch of pictures this morning. He wanted to have breakfast at the restaurant, so he was waiting for me. Kathy & Chuck came also. This is a very beautiful place. Only 9 power boats in here. Their busy season is May through August. 

This is where you come into the Bimini Sands Marina & Resort.  No one is crossing today with the ocean looking like that.

We decided to walk down to the ferry to cross over to North Bimini. This cost $2 a person. It is a 5 minute ride. You come into Alice Town,

We walked down to a beach access road and I found this interesting building with the door propped open with a brick. Honor system taking books out, No one was there.

Found the beach. We walked along the shore line. We were looking for the shipwreck along the rocks.

Walking along the beach were Man O' War jellyfish. They can sting you alive or dead. They float on top of the water. I saw lots of them in the ocean on the crossing.  I carried Sailor on the beach. To many laying around.

George, Mo and Carly on Passages. They left Dinner Key the night before we left. They are in North Bimini, at Blue Water Marina. We found the marina as we were walking along today. We had drinks and good conversations about their night crossing. They plan to take the ferry over here in South Bimini tomorrow to see where we are staying.

We plan to cross over to North Bimini again to explore the rest of the Island. I cooked tonight. Steak, baked potato, salad and chocolate pudding with cream.

BIMINI, BAHAMAS

Alarm went off at 4am. Wayne took Sailor over for his walkie. Then he secured the dinghy. I tried to secure everything down below. I had gone on the computer to check the weather. Northeast winds 10 to 15 knots turning to Southeast winds 10-15 knots early.   At approx 5am we pulled anchor and motored out of No Name Harbor. It was dark and windy. I was helping Wayne locate the red and green channel markers that blink.

Before we left this morning, I had taken ginger pills and chewing gum. But, by 9:30am, I had my head in the bucket. Afterwards, I took one motion sickness pill, only because, two knock you out cold. One still makes me tired.  Sailor didn't get sick, just wanted to sit in your lap. 

I was feeling better here. Big help here, huh? I wasn't the only one seasick, Kathy and Jazzy were, also. Good thing Wayne doesn't get seasick.

We arrived at Bimini, Bahamas approx 3pm. We are going into Bimini Sands Marina. That's all the pink buildings you see.

Today we walked back into the grove to a CVS to get water, bread, coffee, paper towels, beer, deodorant, ibuprofen, gum. Stopped at a one stop shop for creamer for coffee and a bag of pretzels.  Kathy picked up a bag of bagels for me. Think we are set.

The pump-out boat came and pumped us out. So, that's done. Put everything away. Secured the dinghy and put the motor up on the sailboat.  We are ready........

Things to do .....

We woke up pretty early. Wayne took me over so I could start a load of laundry. While that was going, I took a real shower and washed my hair. Yahoo!. Kathy came up with her loads to do. On our dinghy ride back, guess what popped up out of the water........Flipper! He was pretty close to us.

In the afternoon, Wayne took Kathy and I over to shore. We walked into the Grove. We both treated ourselves to a spa pedicure, with a free manicure. Trust me, we needed it! While we were doing this, Wayne was filling our water tanks with the jugs of water, then dinghing them over to refill and bring them back up on the boat. He and Sailor were busy for awhile for sure.


The guys met up with us around 4:30pm  Also, George & Mo, daughter Carly, came and joined us for dinner.  We went to a restaurant called, The Ivy. It looked like new Orleans. Wrought iron on balcony's and staircases. Old brick and stones with lots of stain glass. I couldn't take a picture, wasn't allowed.:(  We had a wonderful dinner and good time talking with Carly in her adventure sailing a tall ship.

Getting ready for the Bahamas!!!

We dropped off the mooring ball and went over to the next marina to fuel up the boat and the extra tanks. Also, gas for the dinghy engine and Ginny. Then back to the mooring ball.

At the marina refueling the tanks, blue-water, yellow -diesel, red-gasoline.

Meet Nemo. New friend of Sailors.

Sailor is the one in the grass. Nemo was just a little bit bigger.

We picked Kathy up and this is when we met Nemo in the marina park. We walked to the pet supermarket. We both had to buy more dog food, treats, toys and flea powder (just in case). Wayne & Sailor took off for the marine store, not sure what things he wanted to buy. Then they went back to the boat. Kathy and I found a CVS on our way, also. When we returned to the marina we took the taxi shuttle boat back to our boats. It runs all day long. It's nice, because, the guys can have the dinghy's and do their thing and not worry about getting us back to the boat.

At 4pm. Wayne and & dinghied over to George & Mo Seivwright and daughter Carly on Passages, 35 Island Packet. Well, it was a challenge, the wind was a blowing with 2 ft waves. I wore my full rain gear. They are way out in the mooring field. We had a very nice time talking about the Bahamas, and deciding when a good window would be to cross.

Dog day in Miami

First thing this morning, Wayne called a vet to take Sailor and Jazzy. Needed the paper work for the Bahamas. It was only suppose to be a 17 minute walk, but, we walked in a big circle first. Good thing we had plenty of time, anyway we got some exercise in for the day. After we were done at the vet's visit, we went to lunch at Moe's on the swing tables outside.

Afterwards, Kathy took a cab to another vet office that carried the food the Jazzy eats. Then she went to another Verizon phone store. The rest of us walked back to the marina.We dinghied over to the next marina to see where the fuel dock is located. Wayne wants to top off all the jugs and the boat tomorrow. We were suppose to get a bad thunder storm with high winds, ended up just a little rain and mostly wind. Wayne tied down the bimini top and secured the dinghy. So Chuck and Kathy didn't come over to eat, It's OK. We were doing little stuff, because, we had such a big lunch.

Sounds like home is getting hit with more snow again. Be careful everyone.

Dinner Key Marina on a mooring ball

Wayne was up early this morning and wanted to move the boat to the sea wall here in No Name Harbor. He wanted to relax and be able to walk around the park and come back to the sailboat without doing the dinghy thing. Chuck and Kathy joined us on the wall.

Wayne and I decided to have breakfast here at the Boaters Grill. This is about 10am.  Last night there were at least 16 sailboats anchored.

We left here around 2pm. Just a 4 mile motor trip to Dinner Key and back to a mooring ball. Kathy cooked tonight. Homemade lasagna, salad, bread and strawberry short cake.Yummy!

Pulled away from John Pennekamp State Part this morning approx 8:15am. We enjoyed staying here at the park. Right now it is very overcast with 1-2 foot waves. Wind is at our nose, so we are motoring. Hope the sun shows it's face soon.

As you can see, Sailor, loves to be on your lap. See, the sun did come out.

When we were getting closer to Miami, look what we saw. What happen to the "Goodyear" blimp??

Just before we arrived at our anchorage, you come upon these stilt houses. There are 7 houses. Wayne says that once they are totally destroyed by storms, you can't rebuild.

We arrived at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, "No Name Harbor", approx 5:15pm. It was a long eight hours of motoring. There are about 16 sailboats anchored in this little harbor. You dinghy over to the welcome box and take a envelope and put $20 in it and drop it into a box. This is a great place to jump over to the Bahamas.

I cooked tonight. Sloppy Joe's, chips and mixed fruit with cream.

John Pennecamp State Park

Yesterday it rained quite a bit. Payed some bills online and finished my book. Kathy cooked, panko chicken, baked potato, peas and peaches and cream.

Today when we woke up, it was beautiful. Kathy and I took a taxi to the Publix, which had a Kmart, Bealls Outlet, and bunch of other stores. Yep, we picked up more groceries. I can say I can't fit anymore food in this boat. After I had gotten done putting everything away, I took a load of wash other to the campground laundry room.

While we were shopping, the guys had to move the boats over to the seawall for a pump out. Of course, ours had a problem. Wayne had to open our tank and fix a pipe in side. I know he wasn't a happy camper. But, he got it fixed and working and said he was :)ing when I called to tell him we were on our way back in the taxi.   (He calls it a S-----y day in Paradise.)

Tonight we finally reunited with Connie & Bill on Windrush, as 55 ft. Trumpy. Last time we saw them was in Stuart, Fl. Way back in December. They brought their boat down on Monday, and are at  Lorelei's in Isamorada. They came and picked us all up and we went to Conch House for dinner. As always we had a great time.
